Description
Live Morio Worms are the tropical, much larger version of a mealworm, often referred to as superworms. They are the larvae of the Zophobas morio beetle and are known for their impressive size, typically reaching 50–60 mm when fully grown . Their darkened body ends and strong movement make them highly attractive to birds and reptiles that thrive on live prey.
Nutritionally, Morio worms offer values similar to regular mealworms, providing a rich source of protein, moisture, and energy. Their size and activity make them ideal for softbills, birds of prey, large garden birds, reptiles, amphibians, hedgehogs, and exotic pets that benefit from a more substantial live food option.
Upon arrival, Morio worms should be emptied into a well‑ventilated container and kept at room temperature, with bran as bedding and small pieces of chopped carrot for moisture. Because they are sensitive to cold, Morio worms may appear inactive on arrival during colder weather — simply place them near a warm source for around an hour to revive them
A robust, nutritious, and stimulating live food choice for keepers wanting to offer their birds and animals a larger, more enriching insect.
