Description
THE BLACKBIRD MAN by Bernard Howlet
This work is considered to be the most comprehensive of any avicultural book ever written by a hobbyist. It contains the amazing accomplishments of the author spanning a period of more than fifty years, from winning his first red ticket to becoming World Champion many time over.
It describes how he bred his strains of pedigree blackbirds and song thrushes, developing variant elements within them, and winning more softbill specials at the English National than anyone else in its history.
There are chapters on the whole plethora of British Bird keeping, softbill, hardbills, mules and hybrids, law, and others. Over 100 species and described. It is illustrated by some of the best coloured photographs of blackbirds, song thrushes and others ever taken, by probably the best exponents of the art, namely Tony Tilford, Sergey Yeliseev, Tommy Miller, Frank Stark and the late Dennis Avon.
This book is a must for every bird keeper to own. It shows the history and evolution of the British bird fancy over several decades.
